Hello! I have lived in the Gainesville/Haymarket area for over 25 years and truly love this community. My beautiful wife, Danielle, and I are avid dog lovers and have heavy heart for the bully breeds! We are the proud dog parents of our favorite fellas Bruce and Pete. We love support dogs, and all animals, especially reduces of any kind. When we both aren’t working, we love to travel, watch a good movie/show, and are partial to our local community activities. Personally, I love to golf, and have been playing for many years (you would think I would be better! haha) Growing up in the area, I have felt blessed to be able to start and maintain a thriving business in this community helping our neighbors with all aspects of painting and carpentry projects. I started in the drywall/painting industry in 2005, ranging in everything from laborer, project manager, estimator, and now to a business owner with Pro Edge Painting. I would say what brings the most joy is going home to home and belong families bring their visions of making their house into a “home”. Thins haven’t always been easy building business, and most importantly maintaining a thriving business, but we have always felt a quality product and an honest relationship with our customers has carried us a long way. We always feel blessed to be able to provide jobs to our awesome employees while also bringing homes in our beautiful community to life. I hope to be active in the community for years to come and want to thank all of our awesome customers for trusting Pro Edge Painting with their projects for almost 10 years. Nothing would be possible without the community , and most importantly, our fantastic crews for helping bring our vision to life!

About JR Deering

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

My wife, Danielle, and I reside in Gainesville. We are avid dog lovers, and will have rescued pups until the end! My sister in law, Maria, is our office manager, who helps run the business. All of our family is local so we are blessed to be able to see each other and spend time together often. I am also very lucky to have my Dad work beside me everyday as our operations manager, and hope I have the energy he does when I am 75!

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

My career has always revolved around the painting industry and I am thankful for the many mentors along the way who have helped me along the way. Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to gain the necessary knowledge along the way. I would say what I love the most is going into homes and discussing projects with customers. Seeing what their vision is, along with our advice, can truly bring some really awesome finished products to life. Seeing our customers faces when a finished product is unveiled is absolutely awesome!

Q: What advice would you give to people?

I would tell people that when things seem to be at their worst, or you fell like giving up, its most important to push forward. Nothing good ever comes at no cost, but you have to be determined and push yourself to the limits to achieve your goals. The harder you work, the better your accomplishments. Most importantly, be true to your word, and do whatever you can to make those around you feel like they are part of your team.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

I see myself still actively involved in the community, and hope that Pro Edge Painting is still thriving to bring our customers visions to life. Also, about 20 more rescue dogs wouldn’t hurt!

JR Deering & Our Community

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

Jimbo’s has been our go to for years, whether its breakfast, lunch, or dinner. There is so many great places…. Giuseppes’s, Taste of Old Country, and a little further out in Fauquier, we love Denim and Pearls!

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

Lived for over 25 years and worked for about 18 years

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

This is tough! There is so many people, young and older, to take knowledge and wisdom from. One of my favorite business owners is Rachel Maddox Loback with Rachels Floors. I think she runs an awesome business, but just in doing projects with her company and interacting with her, she is one of the good ones who truly cares. You have John Filippone, no introduction needed. How he brings the community together makes this a better place period. There is probably too many to list, but we are thankful for all who make a positive impact.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

As a kid, Gossums store was awesome. You could get anything there and it takes me back of the older community when you get your fishing bait and a bite to eat at the same time! haha

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

I think the mix of old and new elements. You can see all the new businesses and newer aspects of the community, but can drive 10 minutes and still see the older elements like the surrounding Bull Run Mountain area. Its also nice to see a lot of new community leaders stepping up to help where they can, especially around the holidays, it makes you want to give back more.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?

Well, I would say John Daly! If you’re a golfer, and like to have any fun, I think you would understand. I think me and John could have pretty good time talking golf, life, and having a cold beer!

For Fun

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

Favorite movie I would say Tin Cup and show would be Two and Half Men

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

I think most people that know me know I am an open book 😂. I am not sure there are too many surprises there.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

Easily, my wife (she has to deal with me and my work always 😂😂) and my dogs. They are everything!

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

My wife and family

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

Family, dogs, and rest
