Hi! My name is Amber and I am the Vice President for an entertainment agency, Last Call Entertainment as well as the owner and chief confectioner for my bakery, Lucy Q’s Cakery. My favorite job title though is Mom (sometimes Mommy, Mama, or Bruh lol) to my confectioner-in-training Lucy. In my free time (ok, let’s be honest….there is no free time Running two businesses equals almost 24/7 work) I love to travel, see live music and dine with my foodie friends. Oh, and I am a master Connect 4 player!
About Amber-Therese Foster
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I’ve been married 21 years and we have an amazing 10-year-old daughter, Lucy Quinn….the namesake of my bakery! (Lucy Q’s) She is a 4th grader at Glenkirk, and my mini bestie!
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I graduated from GMU in 1997 and started my career as a police dispatcher. After that I became an executive assistant for several Joint Venture Partners for Outback Steakhouse before pursuing my passion of working in the music industry where I have been for the last 18 years (as a full time agent and former band manager, and producer of local radio show on DC101) When the pandemic hit and the events industry shut down overnight, I pivoted like many and started a bakery called Lucy Q’s Cakery and since then I had made 500+ cakes a year as well as thousands of cupcakes/cookies/other treats. Now I am back to music as well as baking!
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Have the courage to dream big! My mantra is to figure it out as you go…you can’t learn to drive in a parked car! That mindset has served me well.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I hope by then I will have gotten to compete on a Food network baking show, and that I have grown my music business to $3M in annual sales (and maybe have some Lucy Q’s franchises in shopping centers/airports etc!)
Amber-Therese Foster & Our Community
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I love Ethel’s and Eugene’s!
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
We have been in Gainesville for almost 16 years
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Without a doubt, Pete Evick. One day he is playing to 20,000 people as the guitarist for Bret Michaels and the next he’s with his own band playing a bar down the street to 30, while running his successful candle company, Shining Sol, and also making a signature bourbon for KO Distilling, and developing hot sauces for another venture. He works harder than anyone I know and he’s the most humble guy despite his huge levels of success. I’m a big fan!
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love how diverse it is…my daughter has super close friends from different ethnicities, religions, and cultures and I love that she gets to experience new things with them.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I’d love to break bread with Jeromie “KakeKing” Jones….who I have not yet gotten to meet in person but we have become online friends. He is building an empire in the baking industry in addition to building other brands in other industries. I admire his tenacity, and his life trajectory.
For Fun
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
My favorite movie of all time is Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (the original from 1971). It is the reason I became a confectioner. I also love game shows like Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! OK, and The Golden Girls, haha.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I’m a 2-time marathoner for Team-in-Training (Leukemia Society) and an Outward Bound expedition grad. I double-majored in Russian language and Art administration (music business) and played percussion in both high school and college.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
The signature pedicure at Escape Nail Spa, and the pasta at Semi-freddo.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
All of my fellow cake sisters (and my friend Jeromie, aka KakeKing!) Also my friend, Pete Evick who grinds harder than anyone I know and who works equally hard in his multiple professions/passions.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
fun!
