I’m originally from Boston but moved to Northern Virginia when I was pretty young as both my parents worked for the government. I grew up in Reston as a child and then went to WVU. I started my professional career with Exxon Company USA and then transitioned to Mobil Oil Corporation as a marketing manager. I was able to make a lot of friends in my time with the business world and transitioned to small business after a chance meeting with someone that eventually became my partner in business and a best friend. We have been serving our local community with Piedmont Tire and Auto ever since. I’m also very actively involved with the community and our outreach program is second to none. I help run a social
Media page with 30 thousand local residents and help with multiple local charities.
About John Filippone
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
Both of my parents were from Boston and I have an Older brother who is in Major League Baseball who lives in California. I have two teenaged daughters who are my life and I’m very actively involved with every aspect of their life.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
Currently I serve the community both in person with Piedmont Tire and Online with the Western Prince William Chatter Page. What I love most is being able to help people. I truly believe that I’m here to serve and that’s what I try and do. And I have so many local community members that help me serve. I’m truly blessed.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
I would say that you have to work hard. Don’t give up. Be the first one there and the last one to leave. Set an example. Also, learn a trade, even if you are going to college and have a career path chosen, you’ll learn very quickly that you will need a second source of income to be successful.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see myself still actively involved with my daughters and still serving my community in someway. Hopefully with two more Piedmont Tire shops opened by then.
John Filippone & Our Community
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Red House Tavern is a great new addition. Semifreddo is amazing. The Brass Cannon. Ghosted concepts. Girasole. Bone Fish.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I’ve been in Prince William since 2002
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Hmm, this is tough but I’m going with Giuseppe (Big Joe) he is a wonderful man and it’s just fun to sit down and talk with him. And back in the day, he was a heck of an arm wrestler.
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
I would say Gossum’s store. Mr. Gossum was a customer and a wonderful man. And I miss him.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
My favorite thing is all the community leaders. There are always people who are willing to help in a moments notice. I love this community.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I mean, you would have to know me to understand this. I’m going with Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, the why is because she is my celebrity wife and she hasn’t met me yet but I’m certain she would fall madly in love with me once she met me. And I would say at Red House Tavern because they have a great bourbon selection.
For Fun
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Favorite movie is Tombstone, favorite TV show is probably The Wire or The Sopranos.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
That I was one of the fastest kids in my high school. My name was on the wall for a long time for a sprint record and that I’m a very avid poker player.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
My daughters. My love for the community. Piedmont Tire and Auto. Tiffani-Amber Thiessen and all the single ladies of Prince William county 😉
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My daughters.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Alyssa, Sophia, Peace.
