I’m a wife, mom and entrepreneur. I was raised in northern VA and have 15 siblings and a twin sister. I started my business at the end of 2019 as a single mom of 2 (9 month old girl and 12 year old boy). I felt God was telling me He would carry me through in making this transition and 2 weeks after launching the business, I got my first flooring job. I’ve been able to network with the community over the years and build my business, and business relationships. What really drives me to keep going is making a difference in the community. I love helping genuinely good people with their dreams of a better home, or business owners build and grow. I became a single mom at the age of 20 and it was one of the hardest things I ever went through. I worked 3 jobs and was drowning in debt over the first 3 years of my sons life. I went through 6 cars in one year, often walking over 4 miles to work, and 6 homes in another trying to make ends meet. The turning point in my life was being gifted a reliable vehicle the Christmas of 2010 by a family friend. Always feeling like, if you were in sales you had to be a liar, I never wanted to have any part in it. I was helping people at the grocery store I worked at and loved helping them find things and suggesting different products for dinners, and was often asked why I wasn’t in sales. I learned that I can help people honestly, find solutions to their needs, and provide for my family at the same time. At that point I got into sales and haven’t looked back.
About Rachel Loback
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I’m married and a mother to a 16 yo, 4yo, 1yo and 1 on the way. I also have a beautiful bonus daughter that is 5yo. I was raised in a large family as I am 1 of 16 kids and have over 40 nieces and nephews that mean the world to me.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I started my business in late 2019 after 6 years in flooring and feeling like there was a huge hole in customer service in the construction industry as a whole. I started in sales in 2011 and what I love most about sales is helping people find the right solution to their problems. Even if I don’t have the solution, I keep developing relationships with other companies and people in the community to have options for my clients needs. I started a non profit called Start with One Step in 2021 to help single parents lead successful families, I would really like to grow that alongside helping people make their homes beautiful.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
I was raised to believe that no matter what obstacles are put in your way, if you are determined enough and keep going, you can accomplish your dreams.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see myself where I am currently but hopefully making an even larger impact in the community. When I was in high school, I always stated, “I want to change the world” I want to make a difference, that’s what I’m here for. I would like to build a development for single parents to help them grow and develop their skills to become successful and lead successful families.
Rachel Loback & Our Community
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I really enjoy visiting the local food places like Fosters Grille, Eugene’s Sausage and Fries or Giuseppe’s in Haymarket. For fancy dinners, Denim and Pearls in Warrenton and Melting Pot in Reston, or Japanese BBQ places. I just discovered Japanese BBQ and I’m excited to visit the one in Fairfax soon.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I was born and raised in Northern Virginia. I’ve been working here since 2004, as my first job was McDonald’s in Haymarket, VA. I love my community and helping others.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
One of the most interesting people I’ve met is Becci Clark. She’s an incredible singer and entrepreneur. I had the pleasure of her singing at my wedding and she tours with the Brett Michaels band, all while running a Nollypop Boutique and raising a beautiful little girl. Her mother is incredible as well and probably the most genuinely down to earth, successful people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
I worked at Ruby Tuesdays in multiple locations in Northern VA over the years as a young adult and they are no longer local and I’ve yet to find a place like them.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love that we have a great honest, local car repair company, Piedmont tire and auto. I went through a lot of shady places before finding this one and very glad they are here. I love the beautiful views as you drive west and the options for entertainment and food locally and as you drive east. I’ve visited many places in the world and I don’t see ever not calling Virginia my home.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Dolly Parton, her love for others and confidence despite what others think is so inspirational to me. Her genuine compassion and talent would be incredible to be around.
For Fun
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Undercover Blues, Murder By Death, Eagle Eye are all movies I could watch over and over again. My favorite tv shows are F.R.I.E.N.D.S., The Office, currently watching The Rookie and any show that can get me thinking or make me laugh.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I’m a pretty open book so I don’t have many secrets. My most inspiring moment in life is being in Ghana and taking a taxi on the 7 hr journey to the village we were staying for 3 months. We loaded up the back of the taxi with soccer balls and passed them out as we saw kids playing on the road. I felt like Oprah giving out cars the way the kids lit up.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Good Food
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
God, becoming a better version of myself every day. I don’t aspire to be like anyone else because I was made uniquely, however, I have so many ways to learn and grow. God’s unending grace and provision in my life has given me more peace and confidence that everything will be ok than I could ever get from any person on earth.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
comfort, family, rest
